Choosing Timber Flooring for your home can be a daunting experience. There are many things you will need to consider when making your choice.

Here at Barwon Timber, we have an extensive range of timber flooring to choose from. This extends from engineered timber flooring to solid timber in both overlay and solid strip flooring.

Questions to consider when selecting a Timber Floor

When choosing your new timber floorboards, you will need to consider the following:

  • What look/style are you after?
  • The type of finish
  • The width of the flooring board
  • The direction in which the flooring will run
  • Do you need to consider a staircase?
  • Is the timber floor for an existing home or a new build?
  • How much flooring will you need to complete the job?
  • Has the timber floor been moisture tested?

With all these questions, Barwon Timber can provide you with advice and help with your flooring selection. We can walk you through the entire process, from selecting your flooring type/style, through to delivery and installation.

If you have an existing home, you may just be looking for a refresh of your flooring with a sand and polish. Our Showroom team can help you with this.

Timber Flooring Species

Barwon Timber offers an extensive range of timber flooring. Some of the more popular flooring species we supply include:

  • Tasmanian Oak
  • Spotted Gum
  • Blackbutt
  • Wormy Chestnut
  • American Oak

These species are available in different visual gradings, this will include:

  • Select Grade
    Select Grade Flooring
This grade is characterised by a clear, consistent appearance with minimal occurrences of natural features such as knots and gum veins. This option is usually selected by those who are looking for a relatively uniform look with minimal colour variation.

  • Standard and Better Grade
    Standard and Better Grade Flooring
This grade is the best of both worlds. It contains more natural features than the Select grade such as gum veins and knots but is still quite uniform in colour and grain.

  • Feature Grade
    Feature Grade Flooring
This grade has more character than the Select grade. It features more knots, gum veins, borer holes and a larger range of colour variations compared to the higher grades. It is a more affordable flooring option and a popular choice for those who appreciate the natural beauty of timber.

Moisture Testing Flooring

When purchasing timber flooring, we highly recommend checking that the floorboards has been moisture and oven tested. How much the floor moves is heavily dependent on the moisture content the floor is installed at. Timber flooring should have a moisture content between 9 – 14% (10 -15% for Cypress).

Barwon Timber is the only timber flooring supplier in Geelong that moisture tests solid timber flooring. Our moisture testing ensures your floor’s moisture levels are within standard and to minimise the risk of problems occurring after installation.
